Ordered

The sun shone firecely on everyone on the field. The twenty-odd soldiers grumbled and cursed as they trudged along the muddy field.

"On the double! We've twice the distance to cover today - " barked the Sarge in his normal harsh tones, before belting out a long string of commands in an unintelligible language. The soldiers groaned inwardly and marched in double time in order to try to keep up with the unemotional Sarge who didn't seem to care that half of his men were about to collapse under the heat and the weight of their possessions.

At long last, the first of the Sixth Division Infantry marched into a large barren field which stretched for miles. "Halt! - " The Sarge suddenly barked and came to a sudden abrupt halt. The soldiers unlucky enough to follow directly behind him had to stop immediatly or risk the mistake of smashing into him, which, after what happened at the Third Square Crossing, no one wanted to repeat.
---
"Four no trump," called the Dealer, raising a range of responses from muttered threats to quiet submission from the other players. "Eh, can move out into the light or not? Stay here so dark, I think I lost a card already..." "You crazy? You move outside and that Enthu will report you to Sarge." The Rich Kid and the Wise One stared at each other before consenting to remain where they were. Sarge, they decided, was not worth their card game.

The Dealer swatted away the hand of the Cheater, who was reaching for the cards. "Hei, you deaf or what? I said no trump!" The Cheater feigned ignorance and proceeded to scrabble at the cards anyway. The Kid and the Wise started to wrestle the cards away form the Cheater, naturally provoking war cries and shouted curses, when suddenly a shadow appeared across the tent door.
---
"Enemy division already moving out, get the men on standby -" The Sarge pointed out the dark mass slowly advancing out of the fog towards them. Although they were still a distance away, Sarge still felt apprehensive. If he had his way, he'd move his division back to the Second Crossing. However, being Sarge, he still had to follow HQ's orders. HQ was always right, in the end.

The Strategist pushed miniatures about a rough wooden board. "Ok, we're here," he pondered, and the enemy is likely to be here," indicating another spot on the board. "They could send their calvary over soon if we don't act fast." Sarge shook his head. "Negative. We cannot move without orders from HQ. Whatever HQ says, goes. We stay here."
---
The tent door was slammed shut with as much force a flimsy tent opening could take, the card deck exploded in a whirl of black and red and white. The bags seemed to implode while a flurry of colour whirled and raged and slammed. In a short while, Enthu was held physically to the ground by the Dealer and the Kid. The Cheater had cleverly thrown his hand of cards into Enthu's face, sparking a scramble for Enthu before he could get out.
---
Morning saw the five of them lined up and the Sarge actively punishing them. Cards, or in fact, entertainment, was forbidden. Although Sarge was midly surprised to see Enthu amongst the deviants, Enthu still received equal punishment despite his pleas and proteststations of innocence.

The Strategist had noticed a shift in the movement of the enemy - they were headed right for the Sixth Division Camp.
---
The division wielded their usual assortment of weapons. Studying his scythe, the Wise One turned to the Kid and his AK-47. "You do realise this is hopeless?" "NEVER!" Enthu interjected, waving his broadsword in the air. "Victory shall be ours!" The Wise One wisely held back an impulse to stab Enthu on the spot.
---
For all of Enthu's brave comments, when the enemy infantry division attacked the Sixth Division Camp the next morning, there was no chance the Sixth Division stood.

Although the Wise One fought bravely with his scimitar, and the Kid was found where the ammunition was the thickest (the ammunition wagon), they could not stand the onslaught of the enemy.
The Wise One was cut down with arrows from longbows and struck repeatedly with the butt of guns, the sheer brute force rendering him incapable of fighting back. Four minutes and two tents later, the Wise One was disposed of by a shot to the head.
The Kid, from his hiding spot, had exchanged his AK-47 for a sniper rifle. A sniper rifle could not possibly be asked to repel waves of intruders all at once, much less offer the Kid much protection when he was busy at his task. The impact of the shot had shattered a bone and dropped him an agonizing defeat.
The Dealer was found face-down, his mutilated back bearing obvious signs of whipping and caning, had obviously done some horrible injustice to the enemy (such as insulting their leader or something). His shield was cracked and torn apart, while his spear had snapped with the first grenade attack and afterwards was utterly destroyed. His pack of cards were found scattered around his body, with a lone mutilated Joker delicately placed insultingly in front of his body.
The Cheater had staggered backwards, obviously unable to handle the surging attackers with a machine gun which ran out of ammunition after the first minutes of combat. The gun was found in three seperate pieces, while the Cheater was found in a pool of his own blood collecting slowly in a black-and-white tent cover.
Enthu dealt damage to the group of attackers around the Cheater. However, his years of random training was never enough to prepare him for a scene like this. The large attacking force easily managed to hold his feeble attempts off until the Cheater had finally been beaten to death. Enthu's body was later found amongst a burning pile of paper, with burning fragments dancing around the spread-out heap.
Sarge and the Strategist were the last to fall. Although they took up positions, their combined force was less than a fraction of the opposing division. Their bunker was overrun just as the last tent went up in a blazing flame.

---

The black pawn was lifted by two fingers, moved and set down onto a square previously occupied by a white pawn. The latter was picked up and carelessly dropped off the side of the board, marking the first capture of the game.

The opponent looked up.

"Your turn."
